Yuri Landman began his career as a self-taught comics artist. In the mid-1990s he debuted with the self-published album Je Mag Alles Met Me Doen.

In the follow-up, Het Verdiende Loon, he describes the suffocating atmosphere of a mediocre office, populated by small-minded and egocentric employees. The story is autobiographical: Landman worked at an advertising agency and channelled his experiences after being fired in 1997.

In 2021, after more than twenty years, he returned with the graphic novel 1991.
